Student Selection/Membership
Any student may apply to become
a member of the SLC by filling out an application and submitting a teacher recommendation.
Ninth grade students will apply the week of August 21, with applications due on August 25. Eighth grade students will apply the week of September 25, with applications due on the 29. The applications will be reviewed and the teacher SLC committee will select the students based on the application
and teacher recommendation (see application attached). Once the SLC is established,
a ninth grade executive board consisting of a president, a communications secretary, a membership secretary, a treasurer,
and a web master will be elected by the SLC to serve for the 2006/2007 school year (see executive board description attachement). An eighth grade executive board will be elected to shadow the ninth grade executive
board. The SLC will offer leadership opportunities for all members with the operation
of committees. With the guidance of a teacher advisor, two co-chairs will operate
and lead a committee for each of the goals described above, thus providing a myriad of leadership opportunities for all members,
not just those serving on the executive board. An SLC member must commit to serving
on one committee for each of the goal areas (social, academic, wellness, and service) to maintain membership.
